Public Appetite for Popular Cookery Stars Hairy Bikers diet show


The BBC’s popular cookery stars the Hairy Bikers are carrying their audience into the bookshops. Their latest book, a spin-off from their new series The Hairy Dieters, has become a bestseller.


The new series follows a change of lifestyle for the Bikers, Si King and Dave Myers, as they attempt to shed the excess weight accrued during their gourmet years. It seems to have struck a chord with their following. The book has sold 150,000 copies in the first two weeks since publication.
Amazon has been inundated with orders for the book. "The appeal of the Hairy Bikers seems to lie in their no-nonsense approach to weight loss," Darren Hardy, books manager at amazon.co.uk, told The Guardian. "We have seen a steady increase in sales since their TV series began in early August. "We'd expect to see public interest remain high as the series comes to an end.
The series was something of a gamble for the Bikers. Their previous shows have put the accent on hearty British cooking, and have featured plenty of conspicuous consumption of dishes that might have been delicious but were hardly health-conscious.
The new show attempts to demonstrate that healthy food need not be tasteless or grim. Instead they show ways to make favourites like curries or pies in a more diet-friendly manner. They have managed to lose three stone each over the series. "We're delighted and thrilled that people have taken the programme in the spirit in which it was intended," the Bikers said. "You can still have a pint and enjoy your food."

SAFFLOWER OIL & VINEGAR FOR WEIGHT LOSS

Safflower oil, an odorless and colorless oil commonly used in cooking, is high in linoleic acid, which researchers theorize is its active ingredient. Vinegar Produces Weight Loss

Lose weight when you supplement your diet with vinegar, according to a scientific trial results from Arizona State University and published in the web edition of the magazine “Science News.” In the trial, one group took 2 tbsp. of vinegar before two meals daily for four weeks and the control group was told to avoid vinegar. The results showed the vinegar group did not gain weight and in fact lost about 2 lbs., while the weight of the control group remained constant. Some participant’s taking the vinegar supplement lost up to 4 lbs. More research is required to confirm or debunk these findings.

Vinegar Considerations

Although one study found vinegar helps people lose weight, Katherine Zeratsky, R.D., of MayoClinic.com, says drinking vinegar for weight loss is probably not an effective weight loss method. In fact, she warns taking vinegar every day may cause health complications. The acidic content of vinegar may cause throat irritation. Additionally, Zeratsky warns the vinegar may react with some dietary supplements, as well as over-the-counter and prescription medications.

Safflower Oil and Waistline Fat Reduction

Taking a safflower oil supplement may not directly result in weight loss, but it does reduce the amount of fat around your waistline, according to a study from Ohio State University and published in the September 2009 issue of "The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.” Participants in the study took a daily dose of 1 2/3 tsp. of safflower oil – containing 6.4 g of linoleic acid – for two 16-week periods separated by four weeks without the safflower oil supplement. While participants did not show significant weight loss, they lost about 6.3 percent – 2.6 to 4.2 lbs. – of body fat around their waistlines.

Improve Body Composition with Safflower Oil

You can improve your body composition by taking a daily supplement of safflower oil, according to the same study of 36 participants from Ohio State University. A lower fat-to-muscle ratio helps you lose weight because the increased muscle mass enables you to burn more calories while resting. At the end of the study, researchers found taking the safflower oil supplement resulted in the participant gaining about 1.4 to 3 lbs. of lean muscle.

Dawn French reveals weight loss secrets



You'd expect that losing an astonishing 7 and a half stone would be a load off Dawn French’s mind as well as her body.
Yet the 55-year-old star has confessed she is not entirely happy about her slimline shape.
Miss French, who was 19st before she cut out chocolate and carbohydrates, pointed out that losing  her 'lovely blubber' made it difficult to swim in the sea because it is too cold.
And in a frank interview, she added: ‘I had great fondness for that other body. I knew it very well and I don’t know this one as well, not yet.

'I was never actually unhappy then so it’s not the case that I was miserable and I’m happy now.'
Miss French, who appears with Alfred Molina in the BBC sitcom Roger And Val Have Just Got In, added: ‘When we filmed the series, I’d lost about 4st but I’ve lost 7st 7lb now. 
'I don’t want to lose much more but it’s funny looking at Roger & Val – because I look so different now.’



The actress strongly denies that her weight loss was the result of a gastric band plus the stress of her divorce from Lenny Henry. 
She said: 'I don’t eat bread, potatoes or pasta now.
'I don’t have chocolate in my house. That is really hard.'
Miss French's declarations are a far cry from her previous mentality that she was happy with her figure because she was suffering from 'body blindness'.
She said during an interview in 2009: 'I can honestly say that it doesn't bother me, though I do worry that I'll get so comfortably fat that I won't be able to walk any more.
'Sometimes I'll get out of bed and think, "Oooh, I need to do some exercise" - but that's probably about once a year, if that.
'I think the medical term for my condition is called "body blindness".
'I may ultimately regret not looking after myself more, and plenty of people would line up to tell me that, but it doesn't concern me.'
